In the small town of Pommerit-Jaudy, there lies a garden the likes you have never seen before. Imagine thousands of small clouds of colour in fields of green. We’re talking about the breathtakingly beaufiful nursery of Jardin Hortence. The nursery is located near the west-coast of France, in Brittany. Here in the alluring French countryside the climate is favourable to the growing process of their hydrangeas.

Colouring through

The uniqueness of their hydrangeas is the so called ‘colouring through’ process. When hydrangeas are flowering, their flowers change colour. The original colour of the hydrangea mixes with a green tint in several colour accents. When they are completely coloured through, they eventually colour to a shade of autumn red.

Autumn colours

Hydrangeas are cut in different ripeness stages. The further the flowers are coloured through, the longer the vase life. The perfect, coloured-through Hydrangea is heavy-headed, feels firm and coloured with autumn tones. This hydrangea is also known as a ‘classic’ hydrangea. They have a vaselife of about 3 to 4 weeks, and are ideal for drying.
