Marginpar was founded 32 years ago, in 1988. They were one of the first to introduce freshly grown cut flowers from Africa to the Dutch market. Nowadays they produce about 250 million stems of summer flowers each year on their production fields in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Ethiopia. Together with their employees they try to bring their flowers into the world. Marginpar is in the spotlight this week.

Range of summer flowers

Marginpar’s summerflowers can be divided in 3 different categories. Originals, Seasonals and Specials. Their Originals range is available all year round. Eryngium or Clematis are from the Originals range. Seasonals are available in certain seasons, think of Salvia or Craspedia Pop. Specials are exclusive flowers and available in small numbers, like Gloriosa or Jatropha.

Working on a sustainable future

They are a proud member of the FSI2020 initiative. FSI stands for Floriculture Sustainability Initiative. Together, they want to achieve a sustainable production of 90% for all plants and flowers. When it comes to environmental sustainability, there is still a lot of work to be done. At the moment, they look very closely at the ways pesticides and fertilizer are being used. They look beyond what is strictly necessary and truly go for the extra mile when it comes to sustainability.

Building a community and helping employees

Marginpar greatly invests in social matters. They’ve helped build several schools and additional class rooms. They provide soap and other essentials to day care centers. They try to improve the roads. And if their employees make specific requests, they help them. There are issues with clean drinking water, so every employee is allowed to take five liters of clean water home each day. They have a nurse and a medical team on each farm. And each day, they provide a nutritious meal for all workers. Practical support, that’s what it’s all about for Marginpar.
