Spring is coming, and that means tulip time! Fresh tulips are the pride of the Netherlands and the showpiece of the Bollenstreek, as the region with its countless tulip fields is called. Arend van Duijvenbode is a salesman for France and tells us about his love for tulips from Holland!
Gardener in bulb cultivation
Arend is married and father of two boys and a girl. He grew up in the heart of the Dutch Bollenstreek, surrounded by flowering tulip fields. Together with his parents, he started a nursery and shop. Arend loved it and quickly learned the tricks of the trade. After a few years, Arend spread his wings and became a “Flying Dutchmen” in France. Loading his truck full of fresh flowers, he would drive by flower shops in France.
Arend: ”After a few years, this route was discontinued and so I started working in the production at Van der Plas. Here I saw how much love was put into processing the customers’ orders. Every day it was about getting the flower and plant orders to the customer as quickly and as well as possible. I know from my own business how important it is to have fresh and good quality flowers.”
French florists
After a few years, Arend started to look after French florists as a salesman from the head office in Rijnsburg. “I really enjoy the work and the contact with the customers is great although I do sometimes miss meeting the customers in person. In the future, I would like to visit more florists again to be able to help them even better.
Spring reminds me of my childhood when I would plant the bulbs and wait eagerly for them to bloom. Tulips are one of my favourite flowers.

Types of tulips
Tulips come in white, red, yellow, pink, purple, orange, green or with multi-coloured petals. The shapes of the tulip are also a feast for the eye. They can be found with single or double row petals as well as eye-catching fringed and parrot tulips with serrated petals. Tulips are our “product of the week” in our webshop
